Categories are based on “end-of-year” age. The U stands for UNDER, so if your child turns eight before the end of the year, they are not U8. Please refer to the age category chart on our home page.
-
Bib pick-up opens 1.5 hours before the first race and closes 30 minutes after the first race.
If you are a full-series member who got their six bibs before the start of the season, you should be at the start line for warmup 10 minutes before your race.
Allow time for parking and bib pick-up if you are a single-race participant or a full-series member who does not have their complete set of bibs.

All of the race distances (and lap counts) are posted on our home page in the age category table. Every cross-country race is well-marked, and amazing volunteers keep you on course. Our awesome sweeper runs every race to ensure no one is left behind!
Races on the track are counted with popsicle sticks, which is explained at the beginning of each race.
Just listen for Chris to tell you where and when to warm up!

Adults can run in the U6 races, but it is not necessary. We have volunteers and a sweeper on the course to ensure the runner’s safety.
If you choose to run, we recommend that ONLY ONE adult accompany each child for safety and to maintain space on the course. Slower runners should start toward the back.* Adults should not run through the finish chute to give the young runners enough space to cross the finish line.
For U8 races and older, we kindly ask that parents refrain from running.** The children will have the support of volunteers and the course sweeper.
*Strollers are not recommended on the course due to safety and space concerns. **We understand that there may be special circumstances. If your child feels nervous about running alone or needs assistance, that is completely fine!

In the U8-U16 age categories, only the top three finishers will receive medals; however, all participants will receive a sticker. The Youth Running Series is a non-profit organization led by volunteers, with a mission to keep running enjoyable and affordable. Offering stickers instead of medals to the 500+ runners at each race helps keep costs low.
-
We don’t time or record placement for U6 because we want this young group to enjoy running and the overall experience without the pressures of competition. They will have plenty of opportunities for competition in the future. Before long, they will enter the U8 category.
-
No, they can wear any of the bibs! We encourage you to remember to bring their bibs, but we understand that sometimes things are forgotten. If you do forget one, just line up in the full-series line to receive a new bib on race day.
-
Did you know the Youth Running Series (YRS) board members are all volunteers? We love sharing the joy of running with youth. In addition to the board, we also rely on volunteers at each race. Many great ways to help throughout the day include registration, finish-line helpers, and course monitors. Please get in touch with us if you would like to help.
-
Please check your child’s bib before each race to ensure that they’re in the correct age category. If you find any errors or notice that their school is missing, please speak to one of our friendly volunteers at bib pick-up, or send us an email for assistance.

Just listen to Chris on the mic! We can’t give a time for when each race will start due to unpredictable factors such as the number of participants, the weather, and the speed of each race. However, we always run the U6 girls first and then the U6 boys, moving up to the oldest categories. We will not start the next race until our amazing sweeper has brought in the last runner!
